Spacejoist

The versatile construction system for all design specifications!
The SPACEJOIST system consists of parallel stress-graded timber flanges joined with V-shaped galvanised steel webs that are fixed to the flanges by top and bottom nailplated zones. Each SPACEJOIST beam is designed using a patented software package.

SPACEJOIST is an internationally accepted and utilized construction system, which maximises on modern technology for design and application through Windows-based software.

The flexibility of the system results from the ability to vary flange sizes, depth of webs, grades and types of timber to meet the desired load constraints resulting in the maximisation of raw material usage and optimisation of design. In addition, the SPACEJOIST can be fabricated to the nearest 100 mm module, thereby reducing any waste. It can also be economically trimmed on-site.

The sky is the limit for design application through qualified hi-tech engineering back-up and supply of product nationally. Typical applications are:

  • Shutter support systems

SPACEJOIST beams are able to span further than solid timber joists, allowing the building designer the option to clear span from one external wall to another. This allows the removal of internal load-bearing walls and permits greater internal design and flexibility. Ground floor layouts could be individually designed to suit specific customer needs.
Open Web Design – The systems provides:
  • Excellent access for plumbers, electricians and air-conditioning engineers to design and install services through the floor without cutting or notching.
  • Generous nailing surfaces for floor decking and plasterboard fixings.
  • Approximately 40% lighter than traditional solid joist which means easier handling on site.
  • With its reduced cross sectional timber area and the use of kiln dried timber, SPACEJOIST beams offer the solution to squeaky floor joists by virtually eliminating the shrinkage associated with solid joists
  • SPACEJOIST beams can be top chord supported making them stable during erection.
  • On-site wastage and loss is greatly reduced as SPACEJOIST beams are engineered products manufactured for specific purposes and do not easily lend themselves to "alternative" uses.
  • SPACEJOIST timber components can be treated according to SABS specifications to withstand severe environmental conditions.
